What Is Individual Counseling?

Individual counseling, sometimes called therapy or psychotherapy, is a deeply personal process designed to support your mental, emotional, and relational well-being. It’s more than just talking about problems; it’s about slowing down and discovering what’s really happening beneath the surface. Together, we’ll work to uncover the patterns, beliefs, and behaviors that may have helped you in the past but are now keeping you stuck.

In this collaborative process, your experiences are met with empathy, curiosity, and professional insight. It’s a space where you can bring your whole self, without judgment or expectation, and begin to understand the connections between your emotions, your story, and how you show up in daily life. Through reflection, guidance, and practical tools, individual counseling helps you cultivate greater clarity, compassion, and self-trust,so you can navigate life with more confidence and ease.

How It Works

Our work together is an ongoing partnership built on trust and openness. During our sessions, we’ll explore the thoughts, emotions, and memories shaping your present experiences. You’ll gain insight into the root causes of stress, anxiety, or relational challenges—and learn to work through them with awareness and intention.

I use a blend of modalities such as Adlerian Psychology, Narrative Therapy, EMDR, and mindfulness-based approaches to help you process emotions, regulate your nervous system, and develop new, healthier patterns of being. Over time, you’ll build resilience, clarity, and a renewed sense of connection—to yourself and to the life you’re creating.

What You Can Expect

Our work begins with understanding, your history, your goals, and the change you hope to create. Sessions are tailored to your needs and pace, offering a blend of structure and intuition.

You can expect a balance of support and challenge, gentle guidance paired with strategies that help you stay grounded, empowered, and aligned with your authentic self.

Individual Counseling FAQs

Your first session is a relaxed, conversational meeting where we get to know each other. You’ll share what brings you in, what you’d like support with, and any goals you have for therapy. I’ll ask questions to better understand your history and needs, and together we’ll outline a direction that feels comfortable, grounded, and supportive. There’s no pressure to go deeper than you’re ready for.
The length of therapy varies from person to person. Some clients come for a few months to work through specific challenges, while others choose longer-term support for deeper healing and ongoing personal growth. We’ll move at a pace that honors your goals and your nervous system, and you’re welcome to adjust the frequency or duration of therapy at any time.
Individual counseling can support a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, trauma, relationship challenges, stress, self-esteem issues, grief, life transitions, and emotional overwhelm. It’s also a helpful space for general self-growth, clarity, and developing healthier patterns.
I currently offer in-person sessions only at my Boulder office. This allows us to create a grounded, regulated environment with fewer distractions and a deeper sense of connection and presence.
Therapy may be right for you if you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure of how to move forward. You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit. Many clients come simply because they want a place to reflect, gain insight, and build healthier emotional patterns. A consultation or first session can help you determine if this feels like the right fit.
